President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has publicly addressed his working relationship with Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, acknowledging internal disagreements while reaffirming, for now, his confidence in the head of government. The remarks were made during a high-profile interview at the presidential palace, according to local media.

Speaking candidly, the Senegalese leader admitted that differences exist at the top of the executive branch but emphasized that these tensions are being managed. He stated that the prime minister continues to enjoy his trust at this stage.

However, the president also made it clear that such confidence is not unconditional. He warned that should he determine Sonko is no longer fit to serve, a replacement would be appointed without hesitation.

Though measured in tone, the statement marks a notable shift in the administration’s communication. By openly recognizing internal divisions, Faye departs from the previously projected image of unity within the executive leadership.

The remarks also underscore the president’s authority, reinforcing that the prime minister’s position ultimately depends on his confidence.

Beyond the personal dynamics between the two men, the declaration comes at a time when the balance of power within Senegal’s executive is under close scrutiny. It sends a clear message: cooperation continues despite differences, but firmly under presidential oversight as the country’s political direction remains at stake.
